10 Clean Eating Tips to Lose Weight

Healthy eating at work can be challenging for busy people. Even in today’s situation, where many are working from home, there may not be enough time for planning and shopping to always eat healthy. Most employers today recognize that eating a wholesome diet is the key to optimal health and disease prevention. Healthy employees lead to improved productivity and reduced absenteeism. So, for employee wellbeing, it would be ideal to organize corporate wellness programs centered on creating awareness about the benefits of a clean eating program. This is more important from the aspect of weight loss as excess weight contributes in majority to lifestyle disorders like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, certain cancers, etc.

The focus of clean eating is on eating whole foods and less of processed foods. Let’s look at some simple clean eating tips to lose weight:

  1. Limit addedsugar

Limiting our intake of mithais, cakes, chocolates, sodas, flavoured yogurts, ketchup, etc helps avoid added sugars. Naturally occurring sugars in fruit and dairy are not to be avoided as these products are nutrient dense – full of nutrients.

  1. Love the vegetables

Most of us eat less than the recommended amount of vegetables. Start by adding vegetables into everything – add palak puree to rotis, grated vegetables to parathas, upma and idlis, dudhi, turai and pumpkin to dals, masked peas and vegetables to burger cutlets etc. Your body will bless you for the fiber and nutrients it gets.

  1. Ditch processed and packagedfoods

Processed and packaged foods with the chemicals can be harmful and addictive. They have a high salt, sugar, and saturated fat content and almost no nutrition and fiber in them.

Also, white bread, white rice, white pasta, maida noodles are not part of the clean eating program as they have undergone lot of processing and most of their natural nutrients have been depleted. Swapping these foods with whole and fiber rich foods can do wonders for our health.

  1. Use healthier cooking methods

Sauteing, stir frying, boiling, steaming, grilling, roasting are healthy cooking methods as against deep frying or even shallow fryingUse herbs and spices for tastier food.

  1. Make healthy food swaps

Healthy swaps makes a clean eating program easier to follow. If craving for sweet, try eating dried fruits and see if the craving is satisfied. If wanting to munch on something, try eating a bowl of homemade popcorn and not the fried chakli.

  1. Drink more water

Every cell in the body uses water. Make sure to hydrate well.

Through employee wellness programs people can be taught to eat more home cooked meals.
